Hey there musical theatre lovers! It's been a while since my last email update, but with the impending arrival of another Fringe season, I just had to get in touch. After all, it's not every day that 17 new musicals get added to the VMTC (the Vancouver Musical Theatre Calendar)!
Here's what's coming to a Fringe stage near you (or in one case, a parkade) in September – in alphabetical order:
- Amelie
- Carey-OK!: Timeless Timely Tunes
- Girls Night In
- Gloria's Happy Hour
- The Great Canadian Porno: The Musical
- Ingenue: Deanna Durbin, Judy Garland and the Golden Age of Hollywood
- Josephine
- The Legend of White Woman Creek
- Lift
- Old Fart
- There Ain't No More
- Tommy's Amazing Journey
- Tomatoes Tried to Kill Me but Banjos Saved My Life
- Where the Quiet Queers Are
- The Woman Who Borrowed Memories
- Workin'
- Zack Adams: Love Songs For Future Girl
Note that individual showtimes are NOT listed on the VMTC, since I'm unable for technical reasons to indicate different start times for different shows. But just click the "Buy Tickets" link for the show you're interested in, and you'll see exact times listed.
Finally, note that you can easily find all current Fringe shows by clicking the "Fringe" sidebar graphic prominently displayed on every page of the site! Or just click here.
TUTS extends its run
This news arrived recently from Theatre Under the Stars: Due to overwhelming popularity, TUTS will extend its critic- and audience-acclaimed productions of Mamma Mia! and Disney’s Newsies to August 24, at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl (shows alternate evenings). So you have even more chances to get out to the park and enjoy Mamma Mia!, (with four additional performances) or Newsies (with three!) So grab your sun hat, rain poncho and/or space blanket and grab a ticket.
Intimate “Company”
Rain City Theatre is doing it again! Bringing a classic show to a small custom venue for an unusual, immersive, truly memorable theatre experience. This time it's the Sondheim classic, Company. The show will take place in "Bobby's apartment" for a truly "you are there" experience! Tickets to their last production done in this unique manner, Sweeney Todd, sold out fast, so get yours soon: click here for the show listing at the VMTC!
