Hey there Musical Theatre fans! It's time for another update from the VMTC - the Vancouver Musical Theatre Calendar! I've just completed a major update, adding a batch of new shows. Here's a brief roundup of what's new:
- Sleeping Beauty, The Panto arrives at the Metro this December.
- Diamond in the Rough, Scenes and Songs from Broadway is an evening of showstopping songs and scenes from a new company, Moving Mirror Productions.
- Orthros Theatre Company presents the A Modern Fairy Tale (cast pictured above) - an LGBTQ-positive twist on classic tales about family, friendship, and finding true love.
- Talk about flaming! It's The Dragon of Wantley, a beloved Victorian pantomime updated by the Deep Cove Stage Society.
- At long last, Two Lobsters Productions brings you the parody we know you've been waiting for: The O.C.: The Musical runs at this year's Fringe Fest.
- Also at the Fringe, it's Just Watch Me, a feisty, time-travelling political satire featuring a singing, dancing Pierre Trudeau. Sounds amazing!
- Still craving more singing politicians? You're in luck! The Best Laid Plans: A Musical is a brand-new Canadian musical that promises brilliant - and timely - political satire that sends up all those Ottawa shenanigans.
- Carousel Theatre's James and the Giant Peach returns to the Waterfront due to popular demand. I had very good things to say about their previous mounting of this show last December.
So there's no excuse for not stepping out some night soon and enjoying one of the fantastic musicals Vancouver has to offer. Just check the VMTC before you go!
Thanks for your support, for staying connected with me and my site, and for supporting Vancouver's thriving musical theatre scene!
All the best and see you at the show,
Adam Abrams
