Once On This Island is a one-act musical with music by Stephen Flaherty, book and lyrics by Lynne Ahrens (the team behind Seussical, Ragtime and Anastasia), and based on the 1985 novel "My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl" by Rosa Guy.
Once On This Island tells the story of orphaned peasant girl Ti Moune whose love for a young man of a different class gets the attention of the gods themselves. Set on an island in the French Antilles in the Caribbean Sea, the show has elements of both Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" and Romeo and Juliet.
